 Parental Rights Eroding Further
Back to Full Blog

Dear Home School Solutions Friends,

The following article is from the Family Resource Council. For more information on the attack on American parental rights, visit www.parentalrights.org. A link is to your right. And, in case you're wondering, as far as I know, Governor Mike Huckabee is the only candidate who has discussed parental rights and is in favor of the proposed constitutional amendment protecting parental rights from further decay from our own courts and from international laws and treaties.

Glad to be home schooling,
Mrs. Sherry

Parental Authority No Match for Court's

Last week, a federal appeals court refused to uphold the parental and religious rights of two Massachusetts couples--David and Tonia Parker and Rob and Robin Wirthlin--whose young children were exposed to books that promoted homosexual "marriage" in their elementary school. I met and interviewed the Parkers and the Wirthlins for FRC's Liberty Sunday broadcast from Boston in October 2006 (and our "Critical Mass" DVD includes their stories). It's amazing how cavalierly the court's decision dismisses the evidence that school officials engaged in the deliberate indoctrination of children. The school sought to coerce its students into accepting values that are way outside the mainstream and in direct contradiction to those of their parents. Yet the same courts that are trying to reinvent the family are encouraging the public schools to act as their surrogate. A lawyer for the parents has vowed to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. They could also sue in state court, given the blatant violation of a state law which mandates that parents be notified before any discussion of "human sexuality issues." Of course, since it was Massachusetts' Supreme Court that legalized same-sex "marriage," you can imagine what the families' chances of winning would be! The federal court recommended the parents "seek recourse" through the legislative process. But that is small comfort considering that when pro-family forces do succeed, as they did in Boyd County, Kentucky, judicial activists simply rewrite the democratic decisions to suit their political agenda. When family values clash with homosexual activism in the public schools, rulings like this one prove that parents' rights continue to be wronged.

Greetings Mrs. Sherry, I have a bit of trouble with your "interpretation" of both the ruling and the statement that, in some way same sex marriage is being "Promoted" in schools. Because the school has an obligation to the entire public that it NOT express any preference when educating children to the world at large. Censorship is a form of preference, the school and any educator that is worthy of the position as teacher, would never do that. Children are not going to live in vacuum that is created to "protect" them from being exposed to everything. As a teacher, parent or mentor, you have an obligation to society to be non-biased in your choice of what is best for the student. Im not saying you go and show porn to kindergarten but if the student is going to live and function properly in the diverse world in which we live, then they must be informed not railroad into certain beliefs of a particular parent or teacher. If your going to home school then you need to be even more open about whats "Out there". If you did/do your job correctly they will make the right choices on their own. I am a hetero sexual male adult and even though I dont want to merry another man, I see no problem with it. It is going to happen whether anyone teaches "about" it or not. The many problems that threaten our very existence today need all our attention. those little non-issues should be put aside or there will be no more "Home schooling" or any schooling for that matter, because we wont exist. I tried to explain my "opinion" here without anger or frustration, I hope that the way it came off. You are a parent to "our" future and that's a Hugh responsibility and I respect your right to express your "opinion" but please dont make it a "demand" that your child have your "opinions" let him be educated to as much about life as he/she can be. They will need to have that background when your child becomes President of the Nation in about 30 yrs. I only live my life today to make as much possibilities that they have a world at that time..... thanks for your time. please stop bye and see if any of the other issues can be aided by you or your friends.. Peace, love and less co2 joram
